ABOUT

“Tobias Meichsner had great stage presence… Brahms was in the best of hands with him”

From the solo voice of the cello, to the harmonic diversity of the jazz piano, to the richness of the orchestra's sound.

Tobias Meichsner's musical career reflects his curiosity for the diversity of instrumental sounds, which has contributed significantly to his artistic versatility. The young Berlin conductor first studied musicology and Italian at the Humboldt University in Berlin before devoting himself to conducting, which he began at the HMT Rostock and successfully completed at the FRANZ LISZT University of Music Weimar under Prof. Nicolás Pasquet and Prof. Ekhart Wycik. During his studies, he was already an assistant at the German National Theater Weimar, the Volkstheater Rostock and the Landestheater Coburg, among others.

One year after winning second prize at the 11th MDR Conducting Competition in Leipzig, Meichsner received his first permanent engagement as a solo répétiteur with conducting duties at the Salzburg State Theater for the 2022/23 season, where he was appointed second conductor after just one season.

There, Meichsner assisted with pieces such as R. Strauss' ROSENKAVALIER, Verdi's AIDA, conducted Rossini's BARBIERE and Mozart's LUCIO SILLA, among others, and performed the successful production SINGIN IN THE RAIN as musical director in the 23/24 season. In the current 24/25 season, Tobias Meichsner will be the musical director for Flotow’s MARTHA, the newly conceived musical SKIVERLIEBT and, together with music director Leslie Suganandarajah, the Austrian premiere of Kate Whitley's THE ENDZ.
